As part of a coordinated marketing strategy including a redesign of Trex.com, Trex’s presence as a Homedepot partner needed to be redesigned as well. Originally a stripped down version of Trex’s older website, Homedepot.trex.com was redesigned to look and feel similar to the new Trex.com while aiming for a lower bandwidth audience and reflecting Trex’s streamlined offerings through Homedepot sales channels.

At Media Box in 2009, our commercial work slowed a bit. Rather than scramble for work, we saw an opportunity. Our website had begun to show it’s age; it lacked impact and no longer represented the goals of the agency. A 3 month redesign effort began to take shape in our spare time, snowballing into a worthwhile internal project and reinvestment in the company. I took a substantial role in the conceptual, design, and development phases of the project. The site needed to look fresh and open and improve the ease of maintenance.

Steven Fox and Kami Heddings were married in Spring 2009. They wished to commemorate the occasion and offer a convenient location for information on the web. I offered to design a web page detailing the location, contact information, wedding parties, and photos of the couple. The result was an elegant single-page design that uses simple imagery on a background of the couple’s theme colors.

Nick came to me needing an emblem to represent his weekly program featuring local music talent.

As part of her job, my fiancee Christine ran a  program specifically for young girls, called “Girl Power”. She wanted an emblem for the program that could be used on shirts, posters, flyers, etc. and would symbolize the nature of the program, to empower young girls to be self-confident and follow their dreams. This is the result.

Being male, it was very difficult to create an emblem that didn’t espouse a stereotypical view of what young girls found interesting. It took many revisions and sketches to find a happy medium of what excites young girls but that also demonstrates their potential without being superficial. There were to be no images of make-up kits or playing with dolls. Instead, concentric hearts, with some unicorn flare, topped with a beautiful tiara, cradle the inner passions and potentials of a young girl today.
